A flap-free option may be useful when corneal measurements or lifestyle make a surface treatment preferable. It is not automatically suitable for every thin or irregular cornea.
Discomfort, watering, light sensitivity and blurred vision are expected while the surface heals. A bandage contact lens is usually worn for several days and removed after the epithelium has closed satisfactorily.
Recovery is slower than FemtoLASIK. Functional vision often improves progressively after the first week, while sharpness may continue to settle over several weeks. The exact timetable varies by patient and correction.
Possible issues include pain, infection, delayed epithelial healing, haze, dryness, visual symptoms and under- or over-correction. Following the drop schedule and attending postoperative examinations are important parts of care.
