Most candidates are adults with a reasonably stable prescription and healthy eyes, but each factor must be interpreted together.
Pregnancy, breastfeeding-related refractive fluctuation, unstable spectacle power, active ocular-surface disease or uncontrolled systemic disease may mean postponing treatment until measurements are reliable and the eye is stable.
Suspicious corneal tomography, insufficient tissue, severe dry eye or a very high prescription may make another procedure—or no elective surgery—the better recommendation. Alternatives can include TransPRK or an implantable lens in selected patients.
